National Mai Tai Day!

June 30th, 2014

Summer is in full swing and we’re definitely starting to feel the heat of South Beach!

While there’s not much we can do about the heat, we decided to shake things up at Radio and bring our locals a refreshing twist to our weekly lineup to make this hot weather a bit more bearable. We’ve stocked up on a variety of Tiki glasses, umbrellas, flamingos, palm trees, and hula girls! Teddy’s behind the bar ready to kick off Tiki Tuesdays with our Local Crowd! Naturally, we felt the tunes should reflect this theme, so we called on our favorite DJ- the lovely Christa Marie to create the ultimate playlist to listen to while you sip on your Mai Tai.

Today happens to be National Mai Tai Day! To get everyone excited about tomorrow’s launch, our beverage breakdown this week features this Tahitian cocktail. The original Mai Tai was created by “Trader Vic” in 1944 at his chain of Tiki Bars in California. In Tahiti, Maita’i means good. When one of Trader Vic’s customers was trying his newest drink, the exclaimed “Maita’i roa ae!” which means “Wow! It’s so good!” The name stuck and the Mai Tai became a classic drink  of the tropics.. Teddy pays homage to Trader Vic’s original Mai Tai with his delicious version consisting of a mix of dark and light rum, fruit juice and orange liqueur, garnished with pineapple.

We’re excited for you to try the rest of our Tiki menu tomorrow for #tikituesdays!
