June 18th, 2014

rick

OCCUPATION: OWNER OF PORTOFINO WINE BANK

HOMETOWN: SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

CURRENTLY RESIDES: SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA

Portofino Wine Bank is a fine wine and liquor store that just celebrated its 10 year anniversary in November.  The owner, Rick Silverberg and his wife Eileen have brought a fresh and new take to an upscale liquor store for the surrounding locals in the South Beach, specifically South of Fifth, area. With today being International Picnic Day we asked Rick to tell us what his perfect Portofino Wine Picnic Basket would look like, since his customers frequent his store to help them stock up. Portofino Wine Bank happens to be right around the corner from South Pointe Park, easily the best spot in South Beach to enjoy the outdoors other than the beach.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN SOUTH BEACH?
I have worked on the beach since 1998 when I first moved to Miami with my family. My wife and I owned 2 businesses on Alton road and later after we sold them… we bought out the space which is now Portofino Wine and have had that for 10 years.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WOULDN’T GO TO THE BEACH WITHOUT
My surfboard!

IF YOU COULD HAVE A DRINK WITH 1 PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would have a drink with my dad.  To me, nothing is better than talking and having a drink with my dad who I only see about once a year.

WHAT IS THE LAST SONG YOU DOWNLOADED?
“Toes in the sand” By Zac Brown Band
